There are many ways to build a strong relationship between a journalist and their audience. It could be from their work on camera to their charisma on camera. However, there is one fundamental thing that must happen in 2020 for an ideal relationship between a journalist to be established and that is consistently posting on social media. This is a new era where practically everybody is on social media all of the time, which means that if you are a journalist and do not have a social media presence, you are way behind the times.

According to Muck Rack Blog, “Adam Schefter covered the NFL free agents action on Twitter from March 11-March 14 by sending around 200 Tweets. During those four days, he increased his follower count by 2%.” The blog also has a lesson list after analyzing highly followed journalists and what they tend to do on social media. The trends were to tweet everyday, send a flurry of tweets about events, use your byline name in your handle, be clear about your interests, and share the love by retweeting. The trends of the most popular journalists on the planet are constantly tweeting and engaging with their audiences over current events.

Tweet from Stephen A Smith

Stephen A. Smith embodies what the ideal relationship is between a journalist and an audience. Not only does he post every single day about various sports but he also speaks on issues that are making headlines outside of his niche constantly. This strategy keeps his audience constantly expanding and engaged with his content. This is why he is one of the most popular journalists on the planet. No matter how controversial the subject, Stephen A. Smith is never afraid to talk on the subject and he has tweeted vigorously on these subjects for a very long time. He will always have a strong relationship with his audience because he never cheats the audience, by never stopping the tweets!
